I think they could charge more than enough to cover the cost of the labour to make such a change and make some profit to help them cover things until GW2.

But you miss the point, ANet doesn't get money from game sales, they are subsided by NCSoft, who sells Guild Wars
and in all honesty, why should they add Paragon and Dervish skills and Armour, etc to the other chapters? that doesn't even make sense according to the story and the game lore...

Look at how many "Quitters" have come back after a short time...

That's where the never logging in part comes in.

But why do they have to change something once people start leaving?

They don't unless they don't want people to keep leaving and want people to buy their next product.

I think what people should ask themselves is "have you had an amazing moment in GWEN or Guild Wars recently?" Something that made you say "Wow.......that ... was(is).... awesomeeeee". I think the formula of Guild Wars is getting old or tired now. Going through the game and fighting the same monsters and finding the same weapons over and over, even through other campaigns, is wearing on people. Most people wanted a "new car with that new car smell" when GWEN was released. Instead we got the same ol car with a pine air freshiner.
I believe they will keep supporting Guild Wars as far as they can without using too many resources. We got the holidays and the Mission Pak bonus to keep us busy for a while. They will recycle all the holiday bonuses and special weekends. But beyond that, Anet needs to produce something to try to keep up the community.
There are things that Anet could produce to keep both the casual and hardcore players happy. You cant please everyone, but you can please a hell of alot more.
New armors before GW2? Probaly, but more likely one set of armor for each profession. But i dont believe you should be able to rush out and get the armor. You should have to do missions or some sort of extra content to be able to wear high end armor. Maybe add some flare as to say, if you go kill this boss he drops an item that is needed to craft a certain piece of armor. 5 bosses at the end of 5 different elite missions. Thats not grinding and it would make me want to play those missions. Thats just an example.

The specifics of monetary agreements between companies doesn't matter thats for them to work out. However the idea is the same. Money is exchanged for product; who's hands it goes through first is irrelevant to the situation.
In all honesty they should add them to encourage people with factions and nightfall to buy and play factions and prophecies with their characters and also to make some extra revenue by providing new content with micro payments.
You don t have to change any plot or story to add them so there is no reason not to. Your characters can already go and play on the other continents so why wouldn't there be there who have gone there beside you? It seems just as silly to say that there should be no skills and armor from professions on the other continents in past releases as it is to say that there should be skills and armor for professions from previous releases on newer continents. Is it silly? No. For instance you can get Rit armour in Nightfall but you cant get Dervish armour in Factions. Why would dervishes never have been to Cantha but an assassin can travel to Elonia? Thats what's silly

this is covered in the storyline, if you haven't followed it, then there you go, but the storyline itself shows why there aren't things for newer professions in previous chapters...

Look at how many "Quitters" have come back after a short time... We all know that Guild Wars is like the ugly chick that we'll never admit to sleeping with but we keep waking up next to her cos she's great in bed...

In Hayda's case, her backstory doesn't mention where she came from but it does mention travelling. I'd have to do her quests again to see if I've forgotten anything there that would indicate otherwise, but I'd always assumed she was an Elonian Paragon who joined the Shining Blade after Prophecies in the hope of becomeing a hero as great as the PCs.
As for Anton, I thought of him as a special case who either just happened to stumble on the skills of being an Assassin, or possibly may have been taught them by a criminal organisation - they weren't in the standard Ascalon training regime. They were probably introduced after Factions, with some of the Ascalonians involved in that conflict arranging for trainers to be sent to Ascalon.
